the fish (translucent pulse remix)

the fish

okay, so not exactly a remix - more of a sound collage featuring a recording of elizabeth bishop reading her poem "the fish."

maisunas

maisunas

"maisunas" was constructed primarily with samples of my vocals and escaped from my head very quickly without me even really being aware of it. that's about all i can say.

monostich

monostich

in june 2003, radiohead held a remix competition called the loophole. 20 tracks were apparently picked by radiohead themselves each month for six months and were made available for download. i'm not the biggest radiohead fan, but i submitted two tracks anyway (made with nothing but the fruitiest pirated software) as the starling precept and one, formula 6-4, was picked and featured from sept 9-oct 7 of 2003. i toyed around with the one that wasn't picked for the following 2 years, and this is what resulted.

i, of course, prefer the minimal, stripped-down version from 2003. this one ended up having too much... size.

self portrait

self portrait

created late 2006 with some, all, or none of the following: a guitar, an ancient digitech effects rack, an ancient analog 4-track recorder, a handheld digital voice recorder, and a computer. i probably used some other stuff too. maybe not. i can't really remember.

microcosm

microcosm

created february 2008, partially from guitar samples provided to me by singapore's disco ditto, partially from processed samples of my vocals, and partially from an underwater recording of a tsunami. this is the piece that eventually became one half of the disco ditto/translucent pulse track "cryogen."
